  • Monthly Prosperity Index Analysis in 2019/04

  • According to the monitor of “Yiwu • China Commodity Index”, which is also called “Yiwu Index”, the monthly prosperity index of April 2019 amounted to 1193.03 points, with rising range of 1.29% month on month, and 4.36% year on year. In April, the market kept active, spring & summer products and tourism products were domestic hot sellers, with flourish sales both in retail and wholesale. With the approaching of Ramadan, foreign trade market warmed up slightly, traditional foreign trade products were in great demands. Scale Index, Benefit Index and Confidence Index of April increased slightly month on month, dealers held an optimistic attitude to future market.
    I. Analysis for the Composition of the Prosperity Index

    The monthly prosperity index of April 2019 amounted to 1193.03 points, up 15.18 points month on month with increasing range of 1.29%, and up 49.85 points year on year with rising range of 4.36%. The monthly prosperity index can be divided into the following sub-indices:

     

    The scale index of April 2019 counted up to 903.56 points, up 18.48 points month on month with increasing range of 2.09% and up 32.56 points year on year with rising range of 3.75%. The trade turnover index, the trade volume index and the market popularity index were all increased, up by 2.40%, 2.54% and 1.46% respectively month on month, while the variety expansion degree index was decreased by 0.16% month on month.

     2. Benefit Index

    The benefit index of April 2019 counted up to 1767.35 points, up 22.18 points month on month with increasing range of 1.27% and up 124.38 points year on year with rising range of 7.57%. In this month, the average gross profit index and the commodity’s turnover rate index were both increased, up 4.04% and 1.16% respectively month on month, while the fund’s turnover rate index and the commodity’s gross profit ratio index were decreased by 1.10% and 3.08% respectively month on month.

    3. Confidence Index

    The confidence index of April 2019 amounted to 1004.67 points, up 3.79 points month on month with increasing range of 0.38%, while down 1.77 points year on year with decreasing range of 0.18%.

    Among the monthly prosperity index of 15 major categories, 10 of them have gone up. The monthly prosperity indices of Shoes, Timepieces & Eyewear and Toys have stayed in forefront, increased by 20.64%, 12.61% and 4.49% respectively month on month. The monthly prosperity indices of Timepieces & Eyewear, Apparel & Accessories, Jewelry, Accessories & Packaging, Electronics & Electrical Materials and Stationery & Office Supplies have kept rising for two consecutive months, and the monthly prosperity indices of Knitting & Weaving Products, Hardware & Electrical Materials, Toys and Shoes have rebounded in April.

    The monthly prosperity indices of 5 major categories have decreased month on month, the top 3 decliners were Sports & Entertainment Products, Personal Care and Suitcases & Bags, decreased by 25.23%, 2.52% and 2.39% respectively month on month. Among that, the monthly prosperity index of Arts & Crafts has kept decreasing in March and April, while the monthly prosperity indices of Daily Necessities, Sports & Entertainment Products, Personal Care and Suitcases & Bags have fallen after rise in this month.

    II. Analysis for the Composition of the Monthly Price Index

    The monthly price index of April 2019 amounted to 100.23 points, down 0.02 points month on month with falling range of 0.02%, while up 0.25 points year on year with rising range of 0.3%. Among that, the online exchange price index and the market order price index were both increased, with month on month rising range of 0.03% and 0.75% respectively, while the export trade price index and the direct transaction price index were both decreased, with month on month falling range of 0.02% and 0.03% respectively.

     

    Among the monthly price index of 15 major categories, 6 of them have gone up. The monthly price indices of Hardware & Electrical Materials, Accessories & Packaging and Arts & Crafts have stayed in forefront, increased by 1.09%, 0.64% and 0.24% respectively month on month. Among that, the monthly price indices of Hardware & Electrical Materials, Accessories & Packaging and Arts & Crafts have kept rising for two consecutive months, while the monthly price indices of Jewelry, Knitting & Weaving Products and Shoes have rebounded in this month.

    The monthly price indices of 9 major categories were decreased month on month, Timepieces & Eyewear, Electronics & Electrical Materials and Suitcases & Bags have stayed in forefront, with month on month falling range of 1.32%, 0.95% and 0.56% respectively. Among that, the monthly price indices of Timepieces & Eyewear, Suitcases & Bags, Personal Care, Stationery & Offices Supplies, Apparel & Accessories have kept decreasing for two consecutive months; the monthly price indices of Daily Necessities, Toys and Electronics & Electrical Materials have fallen after rising, and the monthly price index of Sports & Entertainment Products have fallen back slightly.

    III. Analysis for the Month’s Market Condition

    i. The market of spring and summer products is booming.

    As the weather turned hotter, various kinds of summer products is flourishing, purchasers stocked theses goods actively, such as sandals, slippers, cloth shoes, neck jewelry, swim suits & swimming accessories and so on, the prosperity indices of these industry were up 196.62 points, 183.69 points, 137.12 points, 101.23 points and 7.069 points respectively month on month. Among that, the sales of children’s sandals and slippers were outstanding. Meanwhile, it rains a lotin spring, orders of rain boots and rain gear increased obviously, the prosperity indices of them were up 210.79 points and 41.23 points respectively month on month.

    ii. Tourism peak season promoted the market popularity.

    Influenced by May Day and spring tourism peak season, tourism products, outdoor products and personal care were in great demand, many industries had good performance in domestic sales: all kinds of tourism products sold hot, sales of windmill, remote control toys and sports & leisure bags were satisfactory, the prosperity indices of them were up 394.95 points, 177.83 points and 109.72 points; sales of tourism shoes increased obviously, the prosperity index of it was up 358.69 points month on month; beauty care tools, aroma products and hair care products continued selling hot, with increased market orders.

    iii. Foreign trade market performed actively.

    Recently, the foreign trade of the whole market warmed up slightly. On one hand, the Ramadan was coming in early May, Muslim customers from the Middle East and Africa had a strong will to stock, and the demands of aroma products, ear jewelry and hand jewelry were great, the monthly prosperity indices of them were up 435.34 points, 68.44 points and 66.64 points respectively month on month. On the other hand, the traditional foreign trade market was rising steadily, performance of some industries was bright, the monthly prosperity indices of timepieces & eyewear, plush toys and novelty toys were up 168.59 points, 182.68 points and 73.36 points respectively month on month.

    IV. Analysis for the Marketing Trends

    i. The weather turned hot, the demand of all kinds of tourism & leisure products will further increase, sales of sports & entertainment products, toys and shoes will continue hot.ii. Summer products are hot sell, the demand of summer apparel & accessories and jewelry is great, skin care & sunscreen products, sunglasses and swimsuits & swimming accessories will have an increase trade volume.
